TheIndonesia.id - Airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II) has announced that it will reactivate Terminal 1 Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Cengkareng, Banten, from April 1 after being previously closed since 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

AP II’s president director Muhammad Awaluddin said since 2020, Terminal 1 went through operational limitations and was inactive in accordance to adjustments made by airport management amid the pandemic.

However, starting tomorrow, Terminal 1 will be reopened to serve arriving and departing passengers.

“AP II ensured that all airports that it manages, including Soekarno-Hatta Airport, to firmly operate and quickly adapt to the dynamic situation and condition amid COVID-19 pandemic,” Awaluddin said on Wednesday, March 30, as reported by Antara.

“As of now, Soekarno-Hatta Airport needs to make operational adjustments by reactivating Terminal 1 for arrivals and departures, and AP II along with stakeholders are ready to welcome [the change] on April 1, 2022.”

Sub Terminal 1A has actually been reactivated, but only for last flight arrivals for a number of domestic flights.

Airlines that will start operating from Sub Terminal 1A are Airfast from April 1, Super Jet Air from April 6, and Sriwijaya Air Group and AirAsia Indonesia from April 12.

The airport’s executive general manager Agus Haryadi said preparation is underway before the new policy takes effect.

“AP II and stakeholders is making various technical preparations to ensure the reactivation can run smoothly by meeting all requirements in the service, security, and safety aspects,” Haryadi said.

According to him, one of the reasons behind the fully reopening of Terminal 1 is the recent flight trend that has been increasing in the last few days. He said in the last seven days, the airport has been consistently serving more than 100,000 passengers per day.

In addition, the airport is also bracing for sharp increase in air travel ahead of Ramadan and Idul Fitri holiday season.

Therefore, from April 1, departures and arrivals in Soekarno-Hatta Airport will be operated from Terminal 1, Terminal 2, and Terminal 3.
