TheIndonesia.id - The local government of Bali has reaffirmed the commitment to building a healthy ecosystem for electric vehicles (EV) by formulating and issuing supporting regulations to ensure the industry can thrive in the province.

Bali’s provincial secretary Dewa Made Indra said the province is looking to encourage the adaptation of EV, and the government aims to create policies and technical regulations that will support the cause.

“The province of Bali is the only region with adequate regulations related to the issue. We started with Perda [Regional Regulation] No. 9/2020 on Regional Energy General Plan which focuses on renewable energy,” Indra said on Sunday, July 24, as reported by Antara.

Prior to the regulation, Bali governor I Wayan Koster had also issued Governor’s Regulations, or Pergub, in 2019 on clean energy.

“[Afterwards] many derivative regulations have been issued, including circulars for different elements like industry that encourage them to gradually transition to clean energy,” Indra added.

With such regulations, the province’s official said Bali has successfully created a market for EV, and he called for industry players to also shift their focus and business to Bali.

Transportation, in particular, is seen as a strategic sector to encourage more use of renewable energy, and Bali government said it supports state-owned electricity company PT PLN’s plan to add more EV charging stations across the province.

“We appreciate and fully support PLN to continue building the necessary infrastructures to develop EV [ecosystem],” Indra concluded.

Among the many programs prepared by PLN, it has confirmed that it will prepare 70 units of ultra fast charging stations (SPKLU) to support the G20 summit in Bali in November.

President director Darmawan Prasodjo said the charging stations are intended for the electric vehicles (EV) used by state delegations during the event. He also revealed that preparation related to it had reached more than 50 percent at the end of June.

“As of now, the preparation has reached 56.32 percent, and we’re speeding up the process to ensure everything is safe and ready to use prior to the summit,” he said on July 9.

Besides the ultra fast charging stations, PLN also builds 21 fast charging stations and 200 home charging stations in Bali.
