TheIndonesia.co - The United States (US) government invested approximately US$250 million to build a new office building for the US Consulate in Medan, Indonesia. The States coins this project as a concrete manifestation of strengthening the US-Indonesian partnership in Sumatra.
"The US Consulate Building, which will be built soon, is not just a new office for the US, but a symbol of the US commitment to good relations with Indonesia, especially in Sumatra," told US Ambassador to Indonesia Sung Y Kim, in Medan, Wednesday, 17 November 2021.
He said that after the soft launch of the project construction in the Polonia area of Medan, Jalan Monginsidi. Officials from the North Sumatra Provincial Government and Medan City Government also attended the event.
Construction of the consulate building is expected to be completed within three to four years. Accompanied by the US Consul for Sumatra Gordon Church, Sung Y Kim emphasized that the construction of the US Consulate in Medan was to build closer and stronger relations with Indonesia. He said the US government was committed to enhancing good relations and cooperation in various fields, starting from the economy, investment, education, and health.
He praised the success of the COVID-19 vaccination in the cities of Medan and North Sumatra. The US government, said Sung Y Kim, is also proud to provide and distribute around 13 million vaccines to Indonesia and includes providing 10,000 COVID-19 ventilators for North Sumatra.
"In the future, the US will contribute more vaccines and include increasing cooperation in various fields with Indonesia," he said.
The US Consul for Sumatra Gordon Church said that the strong support from the North Sumatra Provincial Government, Medan City Government, and all levels in the process of buying land and preparing for building construction was highly appreciated. "The US government continues to hope to increase cooperation with Indonesia, especially Sumatra," he said.
Medan Deputy Mayor Aulia Rachman said the Medan City Government fully supports the construction project of the US Consulate Office in Medan. He hoped that the US Consulate Office would also become a green space in the city of Medan.
"The Mayor of Medan asked all related parties to fully support the construction of the US Consulate Office by facilitating all matters related to the construction of the building," he said.
