TheIndonesia.id - Indonesian boxer Hero Tito passed away on Thursday, March 3, after receiving fatal blows during a match and spending five days in a coma.

Boxing promoter Armin Tan confirmed that Tito died on Thursday at 4.45 Western Indonesian Time (WIB), and he also explained that the late boxer was hooked up to a ventilator during his last days in Mitra Keluarga Hospital in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta.

“It’s true that Hero Tito passed away. Today, the body will be taken to Malang [East Java] to be buried,” Tan said on Thursday, as reported by Antara.

Previously, the 35-year-old boxer had to undergo surgery due to brain swelling after a match against James Mokoginta on Sunday, February 27, at Holywings Gatsu Club V, Jakarta.

Fighting for a lightweight title, Tito received a fatal uppercut in the seventh round and was knocked out.

Hailing from Malang, Tito started his boxing career at the age of 12, following in his father and brother’s footsteps.

He was an amateur boxer in Kalimantan but decided to return to Malang and became a professional boxer later on.

Since his professional debut in February 2004, Tito successfully gained a number of achievements, both at national and international levels. From 45 matches, he recorded 27 wins with 11 knockouts, 16 losses, and two draws.
