TheIndonesia.co - North Sumatra has earned Rp1,480 trillion or US$105 billion from the volume of coffee exports of 18,630 tons to various countries during January - to April 2022. Head of Belawan Agricultural Quarantine Andi PM Yusmanto in Medan, Monday, said that based on IQFAST data from the Agricultural Quarantine Agency, the request for export coffee certification was for various countries, starting from the People's Republic of China (PRC) and Vietnam, which are also producers of the commodity.
North Sumatra's coffee beans are also exported to the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, Belgium, North Korea, and the Netherlands. "Coffee beans are one of 10 North Sumatran agricultural commodities which are routinely exported every month," said Andi PM Yusmanto.
Belawan Agricultural Quarantine, he continued, continues to encourage increased exports of coffee beans and other agricultural commodities to support farmers and exporters. At the same time, he said, to support and succeed the Triple Agricultural Exports Movement (Gratieks) which was initiated by the Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo.
Belawan Agricultural Quarantine, he continued, continues to provide technical guidance on the fulfillment of sanitary and phytosanitary requirements, the SPS Measure, as required by export destination countries. "Hopefully, North Sumatra's coffee exports in 2022 can be greater than 2021 because COVID-19 has subsided," he said.
In 2021, North Sumatra's coffee bean exports have reached 64,738 tons or Rp. 3.913 trillion.
