TheIndonesia.id - PT Pertamina New Renewable Energy (NRE) will develop a photovoltaic foil manufacturing business in Indonesia in collaboration with a semiconductor and electronic component company from the Netherlands, Hyet Solar Netherlands BV. The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding witnessed by the Indonesian Ambassador to Netherlands Mayerfas on April 7, 2022.

"This strategic collaboration is one of Pertamina NRE's initiatives to develop the photovoltaic manufacturing business. The development of photovoltaic foil technology in Indonesia will be a good potential for increasing TKDN," said Pertamina NRE President Director Dannif Danusaputro in a statement in Jakarta, Tuesday, April 12, 2022. TKDN stands for Tingkat Komponen Dalam Negeri or Domestic Component Level.

Pertamina NRE is aggressive in running solar power projects, which currently focus on internal Pertamina with a potential of up to 500 megawatts. To accelerate the energy transition, the company then collaborates with various strategic partners, both technical and investment collaborations.

According to Danusaputro, Pertamina NRE plays a strategic role in Pertamina's efforts to reduce carbon emissions and support the government to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060. Pertamina has stated its full commitment to implementing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects so that a good and sustainable business can be achieved for the surrounding environment.

In this collaboration, Hyet Solar carries a photovoltaic foil technology called solar powerfoil in the form of a thin film made from a layer of solar cells made of amorphous silicon and micro-crystals with a shape like a 0.5-millimeter thick foil that can be rolled up. The advantage of photovoltaic foil technology is its efficiency in terms of installation because it can be installed on a variety of surfaces.

As an initial phase of the collaboration, Hyet Solar will carry out a pilot project for the development of a small-scale solar powerfoil. If the project meets the investment parameters, then both parties will proceed with a feasibility study.

"It is an honor for us that we can contribute to the development of technology in the energy transition in Indonesia. This is an innovative photovoltaic product where 95 percent of the raw materials are in Indonesia, so as to reduce the use of imported components," said Chief Executive Officer Hyet Solar Rombout Swanborn.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian Ambassador to Netherlands Mayerfas views that the memorandum of understanding signing is in line with Indonesia's 2045 vision and the G20 Presidency to achieve energy sovereignty and a sustainable energy transition in Indonesia. "I believe that the cooperation between the two parties will contribute to national and global efforts in realizing greener energy," said Mayerfas.
