TheIndonesia.id - The state-controlled toll road service, Jasa Marga, noted that 1.7 million vehicles left the Greater Jakarta for the Homecoming Mudik tradition.

The number of vehicles is the cumulative number of traffic from the four Barrier/Main Toll Gates (GT), namely GT Cikupa (direction Merak), GT Ciawi (direction Puncak), GT Cikampek Utama, and GT Kalihurip Utama (direction Trans Java).

This number is 9.5 percent higher than the Mudik period in 2019.

"Compared to normal traffic in November 2021, this year's homecoming period increased by 18.6 percent," said Jasa Marga's Corporate Communication and Community Development Group Head, Dwimawan Heru, in a written statement, Tuesday, May 3, 2022.

In terms of traffic distribution, the favorite destination for travelers is heading east via the Trans Java Toll Road, which holds 53.8 percent of the total travelers. Meanwhile, 27.6 percent went towards Merak, and 18.7 percent headed towards Puncak.

Seeing the high traffic, Heru appealed to people to arrange a time for their return trip to The Greater Jakarta.

“The return period has a short number of days compared to the homecoming flow. If everyone plans to return at the end of a long holiday, such as May 6, 7, and 8, 2022, this simultaneous increase in traffic must be anticipated by road users," he said.

Heru also advised travelers to always be careful when driving, obey signs and follow the directions of officers in the field. The public can monitor traffic conditions through real-time CCTV on toll roads through the Travoy application.

Traffic information and services can also be accessed through Jasa Marga's 24-hour One Call Center at 14080.
