TheIndonesia.id - The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy said K-pop events like concerts and fan meetings are positively welcomed in Indonesia as they support the revival of tourism and creative economy in the country amid the ongoing pandemic.

Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno said the announcement of a number of events in Indonesia this year that will present some household K-Pop names is an evidence that tourism industry in Indonesia is recovering, and the government intends to support industry players to use the momentum.

“[Tourism] is improving, and since many Indonesians like K-pop, [the industry] can see the market is full of potential,” Uno said on Thursday, May 12, as reported by Antara.

He also affirmed that authorities are looking to assist local event organizers to ensure the events run smoothly, so in return, the industry can improve even further in the near future,

“This has to encourage our local talents because [K-pop artists] are managed well, and their products are attractive – that’s why they have such huge fan bases. We offer facilities to hold the event because it’s part of event organizing sector’s recovery,” the Minister added.

Uno also expected Indonesian artists to be inspired by the success of K-pop industry that manages to create its success story globally.

“The market is indeed different, but we should be motivated to develop [the industry] more, one that’s based on the market. If the market is changing and, say, [local music genre] dangdut koplo is popular, it will create an opportunity for Indonesian musicians,” he explained.

Several K-pop events have been announced to be held this year in Indonesia. NCT Dream and Red Velvet are set to perform at Allo Bank Festival on May 20-22 at Istora Senayan in Jakarta.

Boyband THE BOYZ has also announced a show on July 9 at Tennis Indoor Senayan, Jakarta.

The fans of actor Hwang In Yeop will get the chance to meet their idol during a fan meeting on August 6 at the Kasablanka Hall in South Jakarta.
