TheIndonesia.co - Minister of Investment and Downstreaming, Rosan Roeslani, announced on Tuesday that Apple plans to establish an AirTag vendor factory in Batam, Riau Islands, with a US$1 billion investment.
"They have discussed and are fully committed to the first phase of construction for this AirTag vendor factory, valued at US$1 billion," the minister stated following a meeting with Apple's Vice President of Global Policy, Nick Amman, in Jakarta on Tuesday.
According to Roeslani, this factory will represent the initial phase of the U.S. technology giant's investment in Indonesia. Apple also plans to invite other vendors to the country, signifying a potential for further investment growth.
Furthermore, Roeslani confirmed that the factory's location has been determined and is scheduled for completion early next year.

"This factory is projected to be operational by early 2026," he added, as quoted by Antara.
Apple's investment commitment is expected to create employment opportunities for up to two thousand individuals.
"We will oversee the investment as usual. The crucial aspect is that the commitment has been made; subsequently, our team will monitor the investment's progress," he added.
Amman is currently in Jakarta to engage in investment negotiations with the Indonesian government.
These negotiations aim to extend the domestic component level (TKDN) certification for Apple products, enabling the company to officially sell its latest offering, the iPhone 16, in the Indonesian market.
