TheIndonesia.id - Indonesian teenager Hugo Nathanael Yuwono won The Diana Award 2022 thanks to the non-profit organization "Math for Humanity". Yuwono, who is still 16 years old, stated, “Math for Humanity” is a social action by providing online math lessons to students and donating the earnings to charity.

"The purpose of this organization is to make social contributions to others and to expand leadership development among other young people," said Yuwono at a media briefing monitored by Antara in Jakarta, Sunday, September 4, 2022.

So far, Yuwono has raised IDR 100 million or around £5,800 and donated the funds to various causes, such as orphanages, disability foundations, nursing homes, COVID-19 volunteers, cancer patients, and the UNICEF Children's Warrior Program. Seeing the great interest of the students and parents, Yuwono decided to find and invite his friends to join "Math for Humanity" as teachers. Currently, he leads a team of 10 people and works together to increase social awareness for others in need.

"As one of the young people selected for the 2022 Diana Award from Indonesia, I am proud to represent Indonesia on the international stage," he said.

He explained that the Diana Award is a motivation and responsibility for him to continue to spread positive change for others and is a legacy from Princess Diana that we all need to continue. The awards were presented online on July 1, 2022, to coincide with Princess Diana's birthday.

At the event, Prince William and Prince Harry also conveyed their congratulations and appreciation to the Diana Award recipients from around the world.

The Diana Award is an international award given to teenagers and young people aged 9 to 25 years for their social contribution to society. The award was created by former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown in 1999 in memory of Princess Diana, Princess of Wales, who during her lifetime had a very high concern for social issues and always believed that young people could bring positive change to the world.

The award is managed by a charity called The Diana Award Organization and has the support of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex. Interestingly, the award has a retrospective nomination process to ensure that those who are nominated do not work solely for the award but act on a selfless motive for the betterment of society.

Yuwono hopes that what he has achieved will open the world's eyes and that young people can create a positive impact on others and can even change the world. In addition, he also hopes that what he is doing can inspire teenagers to start taking action even if it starts with small and simple things.
