TheIndonesia.id - The Batam City, Riau Islands COVID-19 Handling Task Force noted that it has been more than two months that there have been no death cases due to infection with the new Coronavirus in Batam. The last death case was recorded on November 23, 2021, bringing the total to 842 people. And until Friday, January 28, 2022, there were no additional new deaths.

"This means that if there are no deaths, it is very likely that the immunity of the community already exists," said Head of the Batam City Health Office, Didi Kusmarjadi.

Moreover, based on the results of an epidemiological survey conducted by the Batam City Government, the local community's COVID-19 immunity reached 70.1 percent in November 2021. The high immunity of Batam residents is in line with vaccination achievements which have reached above 100 percent.

He said most cases of COVID-19 that had occurred in recent times were asymptomatic. In general, residents have confirmed getting COVID-19 during inspections by accident, not because there were complaints. They perform tests to complete the requirements for travel or entry to the office.

"So it is possible that immunity has been achieved, so people without symptoms, including even if someone dies because they have comorbidities. Immunity is getting better," he said.
