TheIndonesia.co - A group of Gadjah Mada University (UGM) students invents tiles that could generate electricity. The idea successfully brought them to 2nd place in the ITS Eco-Business Plan ENVIRONATION 2021 competition.
"We propose an idea of innovative tile that produces electricity when it is stepped on," said Bahana Aslamabel, UGM team leader, on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, as quoted from ugm.ac.id.
The team from the Faculty of Engineering won 2nd place in the 'Environation' Business Plan Competition' beating 27 other teams from various universities in Indonesia.
The team created a concept of a product called Floor Electric Generator or FELECTRIG. Floor Electric Generator is an alternative power innovation that uses piezoelectricity and utilizes human footsteps.

"FELECTRIG would be placed in various public places such as tourist attractions, malls, airports, and other crowded places. Then, it converts the footsteps of people who pass through the floor into electricity, which is used for electronic devices," he explained.
Bahana said that in the future, they would continue to develop their invention. He hopes the product will be helpful, especially in presenting alternatives to supply electricity.
