TheIndonesia.id - The Center for City Innovation and Smart Communities, Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), released research on the Digital Transformation Rating and Indonesia's Smart Cities 2021. The research found five major cities with the most Awareness of Climate Change Category.
The chairman of ITB City Innovation Center and Smart Community, Prof. Suhono Harso Supangkat, in his written statement in Bandung, Tuesday, February 1, 2022, explained that the five cities are Semarang, Surabaya, Bogor City, Bandung City, and Tangerang City.
In this research, said Prof. Suhono, a smart city is a city that can manage various resources effectively and efficiently to solve various city challenges using smart solutions to provide infrastructure and provide city services that can improve the life quality of its citizens.
"The assessment in this category is specifically to determine the city's support in dealing with climate change problems that have an impact on the earth's surface heat from increasing CO2 levels," he said.
The indicators to measure support for change include the use of renewable energy, minimizing vehicles, and managing the environment. In more detail, indicators discuss related issues, energy substitution, implementation of energy-efficient vehicles, use of public transportation, the addition of green open spaces.
Along with the increasing flow of urbanization, problems in urban areas also grew. The population density in urban areas with uncontrolled carbon gas conditions could threaten global climate change.
According to the Urban Transition Coalition, Cities are responsible for 75 percent of the world's total carbon emissions. In this regard, several cities in Indonesia have realized the importance of focusing on reducing the impact of global climate change.
