TheIndonesia.id - How many countries are in the world? This seems to be a very simple question, but apparently, the answer is a little bit more complicated.

The problem is different organizations have different stances and qualifications for what it takes to be called a 'country', and no official universal agreement on the total number.

The United Nations (UN) currently recognizes 193 countries as its member states. It also recognizes two 'observers states', The Holy See Vatikan and Palestine, which are self-ruling territories without full-flagged countries.

However, The UN's list of countries is also controversial. Currently, the world organization does not recognize the self-governed territory of Taiwan. The UN considered the country has been represented by The People's Republic of China.

Out of 195 countries according to the UN, 54 countries are located in Africa, 48 countries are located in Asia, 44 countries are located in Europe, 33 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, 14 countries are in Oceania, and 2 countries are in Northern America.
