It is also possible if you forget your Macbook password, moreover when you don't put in a note. This guide is perfect for you if you are trying to reset your Macbook password. 

If one day your friends forget your MacBook account password, there are several ways you can try. But keep in mind, this guide doesn't work if you forget your EFI / Firmware or iCloud password. Here is how to reset your MacBook password if you forget it.

How to reset Macbook password if you forget

FIRST WAY: RESET THE PASSWORD FROM THE RECOVERY MENU

  1. Hold down the Command + R key while powering on the mac (just after pressing the power button)
  2. When it finishes loading, click Utilities then open Terminal
  3. Type the following command then enter: reset password
  4. Select the volume / hard disk and the account whose password you want to reset
  5. Restart the machine

SECOND WAY: RESET PASSWORD FROM SINGLE-USER MODE

  1. Hold down Command + S while turning on the Mac (just after pressing the power button)
  2. Type the following command then enter: fsck -fy
  3. Type the following command then enter: mount -uw /
  4. Type the following command then enter: load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.opendirectoryd.plist Note: For OS 10.6 and earlier, step number 4 is the following command: load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.DirectoryServices.plist
  5. Type the following command then enter: ls /Users
    (Note: the command in step 5 is lowercase LS, not is. Its function is to see the username you want to reset)
  6. Type the following command then enter: passwd usernam
    (Note: username is the one obtained in step 5)
  7. The password has been reset, please restart by typing the following command then enter: reboot

THIRD WAY: CREATE A NEW ADMIN ACCOUNT

  1. Hold down Command + S while turning on the Mac (just after pressing the power button)
  2. Type the following command then enter: mount -uw /
  3. Type the following command then enter: rm /var.db/.AppleSetupDone
  4. Restart the Mac, enter the following command then enter: reboot
  5. When the Mac starts up again, there will be steps to create a new admin user, enter data as desired
