Snoring is a common habit of some adults. Anyone can snore at some point in their life. Causes of snoring may include blocked nasal passages due to colds in winter. It could also be due to a medical condition such as sleep apnea.

However, snoring is sometimes caused by the wrong sleeping position or drinking too much alcohol before bed.

1. Change sleeping position

If you snore regularly, you most likely sleep on your back. Sleeping on your back causes your tongue to be turned backward which partially blocks your airway and causes snoring.

For this reason, sleeping on your side will help you stop snoring.

2. Put extra pillows

Using an extra pillow under your head will ensure that there is no blockage in your airway. Thus, it is the most effective way to stop snoring. Several other techniques, such as quitting smoking or avoiding sedatives, to using nasal strips will also help stop snoring. 

3. Lose weight

Being overweight or obese can also be the reason for you to snore. Being overweight means you have more tissue in your throat which causes a narrow airway. Losing weight will help you reduce tissue and therefore stop snoring altogether.

4. Avoid alcohol before going to bed

You should avoid alcohol at least 3-4 hours before going to bed, as it relaxes your throat muscles. Drinking alcohol causes a narrowed airway which leads to snoring. Alcohol will also change your sleep patterns. So, it's best to avoid it at night.

5. Have enough sleep

Lack of sleep is also a major cause of snoring. Make sure you get enough sleep with at least 6-8 hours of rest. A good night's sleep is not only necessary to stop snoring, but it will also keep your mind and body wholly healthy and active.
